IHOP Cinn-A-Stack Pancakes

I didn't bring my camera with me on our latest visit to IHOP, I always prefer using actual photos rather than stock, so I apologize in advance for the sample photo above.

In theory, this sounded like an awesome combination of a Cinnabon and a stack of IHOP buttermilk pancakes. In execution, it's not as much fun as it sounds.

CINN-A-STACK® Pancakes A stack of four fluffy buttermilk pancakes layered with a luscious cinnamon roll filling, drizzled with rich cream cheese icing and topped with whipped topping.

The cinnamon roll filling was a bit much after the first few bites, especially once the stack cools a little. It just felts thick and really, really sweet. I did enjoy the cream cheese icing a lot, it was freakin' delicious even when mixed with a little syrup. I think if they cut back on the filling and kept everything else the same it would have worked out much better.

It wasn't bad by any means, but when I first read the menu description I was ready to be blown away, maybe I let my imagination get the best of me (damn this fat kid trapped inside me and his crazy thoughts). The wife did get the Chocolate Chip Pancakes and those were out of this world.

If you have a sweet tooth, get a stack of these, a nice helping of syrup, and plenty of water to wash 'em down. I suggest skipping the OJ unless you have an insulin shot ready to go. If you're not into the sweet stuff, I would opt for regular buttermilk pancakes or the Chocolate Chip joints.

On a side note, is it just me or has the syrup at IHOP become more watery with each passing year? When I was a kid, I remember it being really thick and more syrupy than anything Mom picked up at the supermarket, now it's basically water with a little food coloring and sugar thrown in. It just spills all over my pancakes, it's got no body! Is it just me?

Enjoy
